Workshop Full DescLETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) Volume 2 training is a comprehensive professional development program designed to deepen educators understanding of language comprehension an essential component of skilled reading. This volume focuses on the second strand of the Simple View of Reading, helping teachers explore how vocabulary, sentence structure, text organization, background knowledge, and verbal reasoning contribute to a student s ability to understand written language.
Throughout the training, participants engage with evidence-based strategies, interactive learning, and classroom applications that bridge research and practice. By the end of Volume 2, educators will be better equipped to diagnose comprehension difficulties, design targeted instruction, and foster literacy growth in diverse learners, including those with language-based learning challenges.

Workshop Objectives-Participants will explore the components of language comprehension such as vocabulary, syntax, background knowledge, and verbal reasoning and understand how each contributes to reading comprehension.
-Educators will learn and implement instructional practices grounded in the science of reading to support students ability to understand increasingly complex texts.
-Teachers will develop skills to assess students language comprehension needs and design targeted, effective interventions for struggling readers, including English learners and students with language-based learning challenges.
Assessment of LearningParticipants will be encouraged to implement LETRS strategies in their classroom and reflect on how those strategies were used and the impact it had on student learning during the in-person sessions.
