Seminar Short DescELA: Participants will examine instructional practices in reading comprehension and writing.

SS: Participants will review the Social Studies Framework and explore in which way the Social Studies Framework can be integrated into the ELA curriculum.
Seminar Full DescDuring the ELA portion of this workshop, participants will learn about an alternative workshop model that combines reading and writing, as a way to provide more time for choice, independent reading and writing, small group work, and conferring. Discussion and conversations about this combined model help participants explore development of the workshop model for their classroom. This workshop will allow time to preview lesson samples and strategies that can be incorporated in the classroom, and above all else demonstrate how students can begin to see themselves as writers who read and readers who write.

During the Social Studies portion of this workshop, we will bring awareness to the Social Studies Framework. During our time together, teachers will examine instructional strategies to enhance the student experience and develop their skills, while exploring ways to integrate this into the ELA curriculum.

You will have an opportunity to focus on your grade level band of K-2 or 3-5 throughout each of our days.
