Seminar Short Desc | Due to its abstract nature, mathematics is not only hard to teach but also a difficult thing to learn. However, teaching literacy strategies in math courses can make the content more attainable. |
Seminar Full Desc | In a two-day series, mathematics educators will explore how to effectively implement literacy strategies in courses with rich mathematics content. Each day is devoted to answering questions regarding literacy instruction in the mathematics classroom, and participants will take away numerous literacy strategies to be readily implemented.
Day 1 - What defines mathematical comprehension? How can we visualize math vocabulary? What are the right questions? What other literacy strategies can we use? Day 2 - What is problem-based learning? How can we bridge the gap between problem-based learning and state assessment items? How can students write with video in math class? |
