| Seminar Short Desc | Participants will be introduced to the new NYS science learning standards and the Advancing STEM Kits and Engineering is Elementary Kits that align with the new science standards. |
| Seminar Full Desc | Participants will be introduced to the new NYS science learning standards (NYSSLS) by experiencing a 5E lesson. They will also take a close look at the standards in their grade band and grade level. We will explore the structure of Advancing STEM kits - the 5E lesson model, the set-up of the Teacher Manual, the online resources, and timing. Finally, we will take a look at the Engineering is Elementary (EiE) Kits to see how they align with the Advancing STEM Kits and Elementary standards. Participants will have an opportunity to see an Advancing STEM Kit and an EiE Kit for their grade level and will learn how to order kits for their classrooms. Please bring a device. For a deeper dive into any of the kits, please sign up for July 27th as well. |
| Workshop Full Desc | Grades 3, 4, and 5 teachers will experience selected lessons and activities in the kits and get to interact with the materials and online resources. In the morning of the first day, there will be a walkthrough of the structure of an Advancing STEM kit and all of the resources available to teachers, an overview of the new NYS Science Learning Standards, 3-dimensional learning, and the 5E lesson structure, and a discussion around the new NYS Required Science Investigations. During the afternoon of the first day and the entire second day, grade levels will rotate through stations, working on activities from their corresponding grade levels. |
