Seminar Full DescWe are thrilled to announce a summer book study for all educators who are interested in discussing what it means to live, teach, learn, and thrive in rural communities.

Dr. Sunshine Sullivan, Professor and Associate Dean of Education at Houghton College, will be gathering teachers from the region for an in-depth look at rural literacy and why place matters. Join us as we engage in a 6-week book study on the text, Teaching in Rural Places: Thriving in Classrooms, Schools, and Communities
This offering is for educators who are committed to thinking critically about the impact of rurality in the classroom so that all students achieve high levels of learning. Teachers will walk away with strategies for understanding rural communities, valuing rural ways of being, and teaching in diverse rural schools.

Topics include: working with families, building professional networks, addressing trauma, and planning place-conscious instruction.
