Different types of projects will be modeled, and participants will learn how to align projects with NYS Portrait of a Graduate and the PBLWorks Gold Standard for PBL. Participants will get time to experience hands-on self exploration and plan a project to bring back to their classrooms. |
| Seminar Full Desc | In this hands-on professional learning workshop, participants will explore how digital creation tools can strengthen project-based learning experiences and support meaningful student voice, choice, creativity, and collaboration. Designed for educators across grade levels and content areas, this workshop will focus on practical ways to use Canva and Book Creator as classroom-ready tools for student digital projects.
Throughout the session, participants will examine a variety of project types that can be created using Canva and Book Creator, including digital books, multimedia presentations, infographics, portfolios, newsletters, research products, public awareness campaigns, and other creative demonstrations of learning. The facilitator will model how these tools can be used to help students communicate ideas, solve problems, present evidence of learning, and create products for authentic audiences. The workshop will be intentionally aligned to the New York State Portrait of a Graduate and the PBLWorks Gold Standard Project Based Learning framework. Participants will consider how digital creation tools can support key PBL elements such as a challenging problem or question, sustained inquiry, authenticity, student voice and choice, reflection, critique and revision, and public product. Connections will also be made to the skills and dispositions emphasized in the NYS Portrait of a Graduate, including critical thinking, creativity and innovation, collaboration, communication, cultural competence, and civic readiness. In addition to exploring student-facing creation tools, participants will learn how AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot and MagicSchool can support the planning and design of high-quality project-based learning experiences. Educators will practice using AI to generate project ideas, refine driving questions, brainstorm authentic audiences, create rubrics, plan checkpoints, differentiate learning experiences, and develop supports for student success. A significant portion of the workshop will be dedicated to guided work time. Participants will have the opportunity to apply what they learn by designing or refining a project for their own classroom. By the end of the workshop, each participant will leave with a project plan, digital creation tool ideas, and practical resources they can bring back and use with students. |
