Workshop Full DescDefinition of Certification
After successful completion of the Instructor Certification Program, Instructors are certified by CPI to
teach the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention program. Certification is valid for one year from date of initial
certification, at which time Instructors may recertify as explained below.
Maintaining Certification
CPI s quality assurance standards are a reflection of our strong commitment to quality training, our
belief that training is a process, and our recognition of the many regulatory mandates that affect our
Certified Instructors. Instructors certified by CPI commit to quality standards in two categories, Training
Continuity and Relevance, and Instructor Proficiency.
Training Continuity and Relevance
Facilitate training within an Instructor s Base of Employment. Instructors are certified to train staff at
their Base of Employment, which is defined as the facility/organization that employs the Instructor. Any
training conducted outside of the Base of Employment is unauthorized and subject to violation of
international copyright laws.
Utilize CPI instructional materials during training. To receive training credit, Certified Instructors must
use CPI materials for all programs taught. All materials and program content are protected under
international copyright laws. No portion of the materials may be reproduced in any manner.
Presentation of the program content without the appropriate teaching materials is in violation of
certification and is considered unauthorized training and an unauthorized use of copyrighted
information. The Nonviolent Crisis Intervention program is the sole property of the Crisis Prevention
Institute. Certified Instructors are not authorized to charge fees for the program.
Submit documentation to validate training. Certified Instructors can complete the entire
documentation process online and nothing needs to be mailed to CPI. To document training, Instructors
can go to crisisprevention.com, log in to their account, find the Document Training page, and follow all
on screen directions. CPI s Quality and Validation Department reviews and validates the training and
updates the Instructor s training record when the process is complete. This is the most efficient process
for documenting training. Instructors can sign their participants Blue Card confirmations and
distribute them immediately after training
