Workshop Full DescVocabulary knowledge is a HUGE predictor of success, both in school and in life! The more words we know, the more likely we are able to make sense of WHAT we are reading and learning. Words reflect the concepts and background knowledge we have gained through our experiences. Vocabulary growth develops throughout our lifetime. In this workshop we will look at quality vocabulary instruction. Teachers MUST teach students how to learn NEW words. We will make vocabulary intentional, transparent, transferrable, usable and personal. We will share multiple strategies from the text, The Vocabulary Playbook by Douglas Fisher and Nancy Frey. The first 25 teachers who register will receive the book.

Workshop ObjectivesObjectives: Participants will:
Be intentional in vocabulary teaching vocabulary and how to select and teach high quality words.
Learn vocabulary strategies to take back to the classroom.
Learn morphology strategies for teachers to take back to students in the classroom.
Help students access vocabulary and grade level background knowledge.
Assessment of LearningWe will assess learning through discussion and engagement. We will ask teachers to share the MOST powerful strategies for their grade level students. We will follow up on session 2 with teacher roundtables and share out.
