Workshop Full DescWe invite you to join us on May 13, 2025, for a day of learning and professional discussion on mathematics! The New York State Education Department will release a new series of numeracy briefs, developed by Dr. Deborah Loewenberg Ball, that focus on evidence-based practices for teaching mathematics. The agenda includes an overview of each of the eight numeracy briefs, with time to reflect and discuss with colleagues.
This event, which will be a hybrid webinar with in-person discussion and presentations, will provide New York State administrators and numeracy leaders with specific and useful information to support high-quality teaching of mathematics across grades PK-12. Please note that to attend this event, you must attend in person at a BOCES, Big 5, or Small City School District designated site.
Participants in the event will have the opportunity to learn about the briefs with Dr. Deborah Loewenberg Ball and the SED team. Dr. Loewenberg Ball is the William H. Payne Collegiate Professor at the University of Michigan and the director of TeachingWorks.

Workshop ObjectivesParticipants will:
Understand the Evidence-Based Practices for Teaching Mathematics: Participants will explore the new numeracy briefs developed by Dr. Deborah Loewenberg Ball and gain a deeper understanding of evidence-based practices that can enhance mathematics instruction across PK-12 grade levels.
Engage in Professional Reflection and Discussion: Attendees will reflect on the numeracy briefs and engage in collaborative discussions with colleagues, sharing insights and strategies to improve the teaching and learning of mathematics within their districts and schools.
Develop Practical Strategies for Implementing Numeracy Practices: Administrators and numeracy leaders will acquire actionable knowledge and strategies from Dr. Loewenberg Ball and the SED team to support and sustain high-quality mathematics instruction in their respective educational settings.
Assessment of Learning-Participants will have an opportunity to collaborate, reflect and ask questions.
-Participants will complete an evaluation at the end of the session.
