Workshop Objectives | Understanding Accommodations and Modifications: Participants will gain a thorough understanding of the differences between accommodations and modifications and how each can be used to support students with disabilities in the classroom. They will learn how to identify appropriate accommodations and modifications based on individual student needs and IEP goals.
Implementing Accommodations: The training will provide practical guidance on implementing accommodations to support students in accessing the curriculum and demonstrating their knowledge and skills. Participants will explore a variety of accommodation options, including changes to instructional methods, materials, and assessments, as well as assistive technology tools and supports. Making Modifications: Participants will learn how to make modifications to the curriculum and instructional materials to ensure that students with disabilities can meaningfully participate in classroom activities and achieve academic success. They will explore strategies for adapting content, pacing, and complexity to meet individual student needs while maintaining academic standards. Transition Planning: The training will focus on the importance of transition planning for students with disabilities as they prepare to transition from school to post-secondary education, employment, or independent living. Participants will learn how to collaborate with students, families, and community agencies to develop comprehensive transition plans that address academic, vocational, social, and independent living goals. Supporting Self-Advocacy and Self-Determination: Participants will explore strategies for fostering self-advocacy and self-determination skills in students with disabilities, empowering them to actively participate in the transition planning process and take ownership of their educational and career goals. |
