Workshop Full DescCA BOCES, along with Erie 1, Erie 2 & ON BOCES has invited ALA's Diversity, Literacy & Outreach Services to present on the topic of cultural competence, implicit bias, and privilege. Each session builds off the other and space is limited to 12 participants from each BOCES.

Workshop ObjectivesCultural Competence: be grounded in culture as a concept and a common definition; explore and define cultural awareness and cultural humility; examine cultural norms and identities.
Implicit Bias: develop a common definition of implicit bias, build awareness of implicit bias as it plays out in systems and individuals, explore ways to disrupt biases.
Privilege: Explore the notion of privilege as a social justice concept; unpack personal identity in relation to privilege; examine how privilege impacts systems and institutions, including libraries.
Assessment of LearningAttendees will participate in group work, discussions, and reflect on how new knowledge will impact their work and relationships.
