What is Affective Language?

1 : relating to, arising from, or influencing feelings or emotions : emotional cognitive and affective symptoms the novel's affective death scene.
2 : expressing emotion affective language behaviors that elicit affective reactions.

Workshop Objectives-Participants will have an opportunity to hear from experienced practitioners and school administrators on what restorative practices affective language is, their experience with implementation, impact on school climate/culture, conflict resolution and community engagement.
-Participants will define the term"social and emotional learning"
-Participants will identify the 4 quadrants of the social discipline window
-Participants will define elements of affective statements and questions
-Participants will practice application of affective language
Assessment of Learning-At the end of the training participants have to change general statements into affective statements they could use when speaking to students
Workshop Topics, Concepts & Resources-Participants define SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) and discuss how it connects to the fundamental hypothesis of building restorative relationships
-Participants experience the social discipline window through a "4 corners"activity and also used a survey to reflect on personal practice
