Workshop Full DescThe CA BOCES Labor Relations Department is hosting a mini-conference for Principals and Assistant Principals in our CA BOCES region. The mini-conference will include a morning workshop dedicated to different aspects of handling employee matters (e.g., preparing for an employee meeting, holding the meeting, drafting a counseling memo, remediation resources and options, etc.) as well as discussion regarding threats and violence as they relate to student hearings and the Red Flag Law. The afternoon will include breakout sessions regarding an array of employee and student-related topics with a final overview of legal updates directly related to school districts.

Workshop ObjectivesParticipants will learn, among other things:
-How to effectively plan for and handle employee matters, including follow up steps such as practical remediation efforts and drafting counseling memos
-How to effectively handle student discipline matters relating to threats and violence, including the ins and outs of the new Red Flag Law
-Updates on legal issues impacting schools
-Participants will have options in the afternoon to focus their attention on an array of employee and student-related topics to learn more about topics such as: (1) Employee protections (e.g., 3020-a and Section 75), (2) student due process rights, (3) interpreting Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs)
Assessment of Learning-Participants will draft and receive feedback on employee meeting outlines, counseling memos and student discipline charges
-Participants will also be able to ask questions of the presenters during each session of the day and will be offered the opportunity to contact the presenters following the conference
