Workshop Full DescThis professional development session will discuss 3D printing in general, and 3D printed prosthesis in particular. The goal is to provide information to area teachers so that they may start or improve their 3D printing programs and possibly print prosthetic files available through the E-Nable organization. A further goal would be to sew the seeds for a local E-Nable chapter.
Dr. Xiaoning Zang, head of St. Bonaventure s Biochemistry program, and James Hilyer, BOCES Product Design & Manufacturing Instructor, will lead the training. Mr. Hilyer s Junior class has successfully produced two sample prosthetic devices and are currently working with local people who need such devices. Specific devices will be produced and donated to each individual. Mr. Hilyer s students will also be part of the training, giving their perspective on 3D printing.
A representative from the E-Nable organization will be joining via video chat to discuss their organization and what they offer in regards to prosthetic file downloads and the worldwide need for prosthesis.
An important part of the day will be a discussion on disability awareness in the classroom. An amputee student from St. Bonaventure will discuss his experiences. Another guest, Heather MacRoy from Rehabilitation Today, will discuss rehabilitation programs utilizing prosthetics.
Several of Mr. Hilyer s Product Design and Manufacturing students will also attend to answer questions and share their 3D printing experience. A hands-on demonstration of 3D printing will end the session in the Olean BOCES Center 3D Print Lab.
