Seminar Short Desc | This workshop will review the role of the Dignity Act Coordinator, what bullying is, what the role of the bystander is, as well as examining school factors and intervention strategies. |
Seminar Full Desc | The Dignity for All Students Act seeks to provide New York State school students with safe and supportive environments free from discrimination, intimidation, taunting, harassment, and bullying on school property, a school bus and/or at a school function. Compliance with the Dignity Act requires at least one staff member in each school building to be designated as the Dignity Act Coordinator (DAC) and thoroughly trained to handle human relations in the areas of race, color, weight, national origin, ethnic group, religion, religious practice, disability, sexual orientation, gender (defined to include gender identity or expression), and sex (Education Law 13[3]; 8 NYCRR 100.2[jj][4]).
This workshop is designed to provide Dignity Act Coordinators with: -Research based intervention strategies for faculty, staff, and students -Strategies for creating a school community of upstanders -Opportunities to collaborate and review reporting procedures and data with regional Dignity Act Coordinators Participants are encouraged to bring and share case examples for the purpose of debriefing with others within this learning community. |
