The participants will learn the seven critical ingredients of phonics teaching that produce the greatest student learning gains: Readiness Skills, Scope and Sequence, Blending, Dictation, Word Awareness, High Frequency Words, and Reading Connected Texts; Wiley will also integrate the 10 Common Causes of Phonics Instruction Failure. This two-session workshop will have a tremendous impact on teachers and kids in our region. |

Seminar Objectives | Participants will be able to fully implement the Heggerty Curriculum into their daily lesson plans.
Participants will understand the difference between phonological awareness, phonemic awareness and phonics. Participants will be able to use Heggerty assessment data to make decisions on their students placement in the Heggerty curriculum |
Work Summary | Participants were trained using the Heggerty on Demand Professional Development videos.
Participants also watched a coach model the first lesson with hand motions in the curriculum and then practiced the use of this curriculum with a partner, Participants were shown how to administer the Heggerty screener to students according to grade level. |
Assessment of Learning | Participants can define as a whole group the terms phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, and phonics.
Participants modeled implementation of the Heggerty curriculum with a partner. Participants completed a self-assessment survey. |
