Seminar Objectives-Meet with Mary Guilford to discuss library programming and provide support
-Offer training on Insignia for interested faculty and staff
-Observed a first grade class receiving instruction on Book Flix
Work Summary-The elementary library is now located in the middle/high school part of the school so Mary had to merge the elementary and ms/hs collection. The arrangement is working well. It is a small space but new furniture that is comfortable has replaced old wooden chairs and not so many study halls have been assigned to the space
-Library aide, Vicky, has been working on updating labels on elem books since many were done incorrectly over the years. For example, the spine label was on the front of the book, not the spine. When searching for a book on the shelf, every couple of books needed to be pulled to check for the location instead of scanning the spines. Correcting this has made not only retrieving books faster but also re-shelving them more efficient
-I was available to provide training on Insignia but had no teachers or staff stop by to see me
Assessment of Learning-Mary has strong classroom management strategies and students remained on task
-She has successfully merged two library collections and created a welcoming space for all students
-The shelf order of books is improving with new spine labels and students are finding it easier and faster to locate books: books are increasingly being shelved in the proper location
