Seminar Short Desc | St. Bonaventure University invites K-12 teachers to the 9th annual NYSSLS lab development workshop with talks and hands-on activities to learn about the pros and cons of an increasing level of carbon dioxide around us. |
Seminar Full Desc | Dr. Lin Xiang is back from the University of Kentucky to teach us about the CO2/bicarbonate buffer system and how it works to maintain pH in our blood and the ocean. We will test the effect of CO2 on pH in different aqueous solutions. We will learn the chemistry that underlies ocean acidification using a computer model and how inheritance and variation of traits could affect blood pH regulation. Participants will discuss and create plans for classroom implementation. Concepts will span all domains of science. Lunch will be provided by the St. Bonaventure's Dining Services - with a wide variety of options, including sustainably-sourced and plant-based options! |
