Seminar Objectives-Give participants the opportunity to learn about the realities of poverty and its impact on society
-Promote insightful conversation about the realities of poverty
-Demonstrate the importance of a community working together to address the problem
Work Summary-Participants were asked to adopt a new persona and family profile
-Participants role play a person in poverty and try to maintain their home, feed their families, send their children to school and retain utility services while trying to navigate local supports and resources
Assessment of Learning-Personal reflection circle after the simulation has been completed
-Workshop evaluation completed
Evaluation Summary Notes-Participants stated they would be more mindful of their students' behaviors as they pertain to their background
-This was an eye opened
-This helped remind me that everyone is trying their personal best
-This simulation was enlightening. I learned a lot and will be more mindful of students backgrounds
-This training should be experienced by a variety of groups and communities
Needed Changes-This lacked a "real" element. Being poor is more than just trying to get help and pawning things.
-A list of local resources we can hand out to families
Next Steps-Participants would like a list of community resources that they could hand out to their students' families
-Really think about students home lives more
-Work to treat all kids with an open mind to their circumstances
-Always be kind and understanding
