Seminar Short DescThe Reading Cafe provides middle and high-school ELA teachers an opportunity to discuss contemporary works of fiction and non-fiction. The first novel is Jeff Zentner's In the Wild Light (August 5, 2021): an unforgettable story of friendship, loss, and new beginnings: a poignant coming-of-age novel about two best friends whose connection is tested when they get the opportunity to leave their impoverished small town for an elite prep school.
Seminar Full DescThe Reading Cafe provides middle and high-school ELA teachers an opportunity to discuss contemporary works of fiction and non-fiction. The first novel is Jeff Zentner's In the Wild Light (August 5, 2021): an unforgettable story of friendship, loss, and new beginnings: a poignant coming-of-age novel about two best friends whose connection is tested when they get the opportunity to leave their impoverished small town for an elite prep school.
In the Wild Light has been named one of the best books of the year by The New York Times; Buzzfeed; Kirkus Reviews; Publishers Weekly; and Chicago Public Library.
*Important Note: The Reading Cafe book talks aren't designed to promote novels to teach to students; the talks are an opportunity for teachers to talk about contemporary adolescent literature that could be a great addition to curriculum/instruction; teaching the novel to students is a district-based decision.
