Seminar Full DescCome join us for the K-5 Collaborative Learning Community (CLC): Math & Science. This workshop series is designed to provide continued learning from the Summer Math Institute with a focus on the book Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics written by Peter Liljedahl and to work on shifting science learning and assessment to align with the new science standards (NYSSLS).
"Much of what happens in math classrooms today is guided by institutional norms laid down at the inception of an industrial-age model of public education" (Liljedahl, 11). The math portion of our CLC will focus on the research and pedagogy that supports teaching practices for the Thinking Classroom.
During the science portion of our CLC you will learn best practices for teaching all three dimensions of the new science standards, the science behind some of the more challenging science concepts and have a chance to share feedback as we work to revise the Advancing STEM kits to best fit your needs.
You will have an opportunity to focus on a grade level band of your choice K-2 or 3-5 throughout each of our days.
