Work Summary-Large study halls are assigned to the library with the library aide providing oversight. The library space is small and seating is limited to about 24 students. Participant would like to create a comfortable seating area for students to relax with a book but in doing so, would take away from the wooden tables and chairs set up in the space. Fortunately, school leadership understands the situation and some work is being scheduled to modify the space with a new circulation desk. It is hoped that this will open an area for flexible seating. Participant would like to have the two libraries (elem and ms/hs) closer together so she could be more fully utilized. Facilitator culled outdated fiction from the ms collections and completed doing the same for 3/4 of the high school fiction. Most titles were stories based on movies but facilitator pulled popular fiction from the early 2000's that were trending at the time - dystopian, fantasy, fantasy-romance and horror.
Assessment of Learning-Participant took notes while facilitator weeded books. Some were obvious as to why facilitator recommended weeding; others not so much. Facilitator would ask participant to evaluate and provide feedback on her thoughts before facilitator offered hers. Some titles facilitator suggested participant replace with newer copies because of poor physical condition. Participant made notes of these titles.
