| Seminar Objectives | -Students learned how to play Gimkit, an interactive review game.
-Teachers learned how Gimkit works with a live demonstrations -Some teacher participated in the activity as well, while others just observed and asked questions |
| Work Summary | -Visited 6 different classrooms in district and demonstrated and facilitated a game of Gimkit in each classroom
-Students played from their iPads -Most rooms we played at least 2 if not 3 different games of Gimkit so the students could become familiar with the technique and strategy of playing the review game -This was the second round of Gimkit so this time we advanced to the next level of Gimkit, teaching students how to "shop" to increase money, and in grades 2 and 4, we advanced to different more complex versions of the game |
| Assessment of Learning | -Active participation in the game from all of the students told me that they learned how to play
-Followed up with the teachers in an email afterwards and asked them for their input -Teachers said that it was successful and that the students had a lot of fun -Some asked me to continue with the next level of Gimkit for my next visit in January |
| Evaluation Summary Notes | -Students were really engaged and seemed to understand Gimkit quickly
-Students wanted to continue playing because they enjoyed it so much |
| Needed Changes | -The next visit facilitator will increase the level of difficulty and also tailor the games more specifically to the content that the students are learning in each respective class
-For some teachers we will move into the next technology (coding using Puzzlets for the younger students, or Pyonkee for the upper grade-levels) |
| Next Steps | -In some of the classes, facilitator will return back to the classrooms in two weeks and teach them the next level of Gimkit
-Facilitator will also create more content specific games for the teachers -For other classes we will begin a new coding activity using the Puzzlets, depending on what the teachers request -The facilitator also wants to encourage teachers to make appointments so facilitator can show them how to use Gimkit if they would like to continue using it in their classrooms |
