Seminar ObjectivesThe students learned how to play Gimkit, an interactive review game. The teachers learned how Gimkit works with a live demonstration. Some teachers participated in the activity as well, while others just observed and asked questions.
Work SummaryI visited 7 different classrooms while at Ellicottville, and I demonstrated and facilitated a game of Gimkit in each classroom. The students played from their iPads. In most rooms, we played at least 2 if not 3 different games of Gimkit so the students could become familiar with the technique and strategy of playing the review game.
Assessment of LearningThe active participation in the game from all of the students told me that they learned how to play. I also followed up with the teachers in an email afterwards and asked them for their input. They all said that was successful and that the students had a lot of fun! Some asked me to continue with the next level of Gimkit for my next visit in January.
Evaluation Summary NotesThe students were really engaged and seemed to understand Gimkit quickly. They wanted to continue playing because they enjoyed it so much.
Needed ChangesFor the next visit, I will increase the level of difficulty and also tailor the games more specifically to the content that the students are learning in each respective class.
Next StepsI will return back to the classrooms in January and teach them the next level of Gimkit. I will also create more content specific games for the teachers.
