Seminar Objectives-Librarian would share classroom management strategies.
-Family Resource Coordinator, Veronica "Nikki" (Scholes) Medler, would be made aware of student wellness resources.
-Teachers would visit to ask questions or learn more about Learning Resources.
Work Summary-Shannon is assisting an English teacher in managing a 10th grade class. Without any aides to help manage some of the students, the English teacher is bringing his students to the library where instruction can take place and library staff can step in if needed. Shannon and I discussed the challenges and how she effectively interacts with students who push limits and are disruptive. I asked Shannon if she would be willing to serve as a mentor to other school librarians who face similar challenges.
-As part of my visit, Shannon shared with teachers that I would be available for the day.
-Nikki Medler has shown where to access Teen Health and Wellness and its lesson plans that will help her in student wellness goals. I also shared BASE Education (CASEL) courses that are run through our DL program. (Nikki visited LR a few days prior and since I was in district, I shared additional resources with her).
Assessment of Learning-Nikki was appreciative of the resources I shared and successfully navigated to Teen Health and Wellness site and accessed lesson plans.
-Shannon and I discussed several classroom management styles and the challenges, within the district and in home environments, impacting student behavior.
