| Seminar Objectives | -Mary will identify non-fiction books appropriate for weeding. |
| Work Summary | -I pulled many non-fiction books in the reference section and asked Mary to evaluate the content. Books discarded included those with poor photography quality, outdated content, chemical smell, irrelevant or replaced with technology. For example, dictionaries, thesauruses, a WorldBook Encyclopedia from 2004. |
| Assessment of Learning | Mary evaluated titles I pulled and we discussed whether that item should be in the library or discarded. Without offering my opinion, Mary was able to make sound judgment and if questioned by administration, will be able to defend why a resource is being discarded. |
| Evaluation Summary Notes | The reference section took up four double-sided bookcases. It was appropriate to weed approximately half of the collection. It is hoped that by freeing up this space, the library can accommodate comfortable and flexible seating for students and a warranted coffee/tea area for faculty (marketing). |
| Needed Changes | -Now that the reference section has been weeded, Mary will go through steps to have the books discarded. |
