Seminar Objectives-Re-shelve non-fiction and fiction books to improve traffic flow. For example, grouping non-fiction together, juvenile fiction together and picture books together in sections instead of in random places
Work Summary-The entire non-fiction collection (thousands of books) were relocated and re-shelved and the majority of juvenile fiction (several thousand) were relocated and re-shelved
-Pictures books that were regrouped into categories (Seuss books and Caldecott winners) and shelved separately from the picture book collection were re-shelved into the picture book collection
-Continued conversations regarding programming, collaborative ideas with teachers and suggestions for additional changes to the physical environment
Assessment of Learning-Participant asked lots of questions about programming and her goals for the year
Evaluation Summary Notes-Participant was thrilled to have the books reorganized in a logical manner
-Participant appreciated being able to discuss her goals and receive feedback and support
Needed Changes-Nothing for today
Next Steps-In the section that housed picture books separate from the collection (Seuss, Caldecott, number books, alphabet books, etc) approximately 150 had colored stickers covering up the spine labels. The stickers represented reading/grade levels and were placed to prevent being shelved into the main collection (preference of previous librarian). The stickers were covered with clear labels and will need to be removed so the books can be added into the main collection. Facilitator recommended a high school student in need of community service hours.
-In the biography section, the books had incorrect Dewey numbers. When facilitator returns to district later in July will show participant how to delete the discarded titles in the catalog system and how to globally update the remaining biography books to the correct Dewey number
-We will be reviewing the School Library Program Rubric later this month
