Seminar Objectives | -Eleigh Walker is working on her master's degree from the University of Albany and I am serving as her mentor. The first objective was to review internship requirements for her last course. The second objective was to explain Swank Streaming and why a movie request may be denied (Rob Miller and Eleigh). |
Work Summary | -Eleigh and I reviewed her goals for fulfilling internship hours.
-We discussed library programming for the ES library, collection development, and collaborations with faculty. -Eleigh will need to update library lessons developed by the previous librarian to incorporate technology and CS/DF standards. -The elementary library is in need of being weeded since there is no room for new books. -Eleigh and I discussed creating lower ES and upper ES sections of the library and possibly genrefying the upper ES section over the summer. -Also, Eleigh needed resources for an upcoming project. After our meeting, I reviewed and pulled resources from Teaching Books, Kids Discover, World Book, and Encyclopedia Britannica and sent them to Eleigh. She was very appreciative of my help. -Rob Miller asked to explain why a tv show was denied through Swank Streaming. I explained that Swank does not have every movie or tv show in their bank. The specific show, The Swiss Family Robinson, would need to be requested from the studio, by Swank, and then depending on the price would be an additional cost to the district. This resource would have to be repurchased again every school year. Since CLV purchases Swank movie license, I suggested to Rob that the district purchase Swiss Family Robinson on DVD and then the teacher can use it each year with no extra cost. This is a convenient and cost effective alternative. |
Assessment of Learning | -Eleigh took notes, asked questions, and was very thorough.
-Rob was appreciative of my explaining Swank's reason and providing an alternative solution. |
