| Seminar Objectives | Laura wanted to discuss the elements of the Policy and Procedure Manual and Library Curriculum /Planning |
| Work Summary | Pioneer's school librarians have a limited policy and procedure manual and Laura would like to develop the one for Delevan. This may be complicated since the district librarian is the MS librarian, Arcade, MS and HS librarians are certified and Laura is not. I recommended that Laura use the template to and use as a Guide.
-Laura and I looked at ISTE standards and compared with Common Sense Media's lessons on digital citizenship, online safety, etc. We also reviewed the organization of the information Fluency Continuum, benchmark skills for PreK-5, and graphic organizers. |
| Assessment of Learning | Laura and I had rich discussions, she took notes and bookmarked sites. |
| Evaluation Summary Notes | Laura is looking forward to working full time in the library and providing instruction, as well as developing a STEM program and teaching computer science and digital literacy. She expressed appreciation for my time in answering her questions, providing resources, and showing her websites that will be of help to her for 24-25. Laura has many foals and expectations for her new role. |
| Needed Changes | I respectfully explained to Laura how the role of librarian is different from teacher and that while it is food to have new goals, she will need to embrace teachable moments and flexibility. The validation received as a school librarian is very different from the classroom teacher and her relationship[ with teachers and administrators will change due to her now managing inventory, a budget, and providing customer service to colleagues. |
