Seminar Full DescWiley Blevins, Early Reading Specialist/Practitioner; Author; and Associate Publisher at Reycraft Books will be walking K-3 teachers through his practical, informative, contemporary, and success-oriented text: A Fresh Look at Phonics. The participants will learn the seven critical ingredients of phonics teaching that produce the greatest student learning gains: Readiness Skills, Scope and Sequence, Blending, Dictation, Word Awareness, High Frequency Words, and Reading Connected Texts; Wiley will also integrate the 10 Common Causes of Phonics Instruction Failure. This two-session workshop will have a tremendous impact on teachers and kids in our region.

Participants will understand the difference between phonological awareness, phonemic awareness and phonics.
Participants will be able to use Heggerty assessment data to make decisions on their students placement in the Heggerty curriculum
Work SummaryParticipants were trained using the Heggerty on Demand Professional Development videos.
Participants also watched a coach model the first lesson with hand motions in the curriculum and then practiced the use of this curriculum with a partner, Participants were shown how to administer the Heggerty screener to students according to grade level.
Assessment of LearningParticipants can define as a whole group the terms phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, and phonics.
Participants modeled implementation of the Heggerty curriculum with a partner.
Participants completed a self-assessment survey.
