The four sessions will allow for text-based discussions as well as some of the most profound research and resources for teachers as they navigate contemporary social issues and injustices with their students. |
Seminar Full Desc | This workshop (4 sessions) uses Angie Thomas' novel The Hate U Give as a catalyst for significant, relevant, and difficult conversations. The four sessions will allow for text-based discussions as well as some of the most profound research and resources for teachers as they navigate contemporary social issues and injustices with their students. The content is designed to help teachers guide conversations with students about racism, racial identity, bias, and the way these forces shape every aspect of society. The workshop will also include discussion questions about the protests, police brutality, and media literacy. There will be an explicit connection to NYS Mental Health Education, specifically in Section 2, Developing Healthy Relationships: 2B Empathy, Compassion, Acceptance. |
