Seminar Full DescNew York State s redesigned Grade 5 Elementary-Level and Grade 8 Intermediate-Level Science Assessments represent a significant shift toward measuring student understanding of the NYS P-12 Science Learning Standards, emphasizing three-dimensional learning, scientific reasoning, and application of knowledge through phenomenon-based tasks and data analysis.

In this professional development session, participants will explore the structure and expectations of the new science assessments while examining district and school-level performance data from the first years of implementation. Using reports generated through WNYRIC's Data Warehouse, teachers and instructional leaders will learn how to interpret student performance trends, identify strengths and gaps across standards and reporting categories, and use assessment insights to inform curriculum planning and classroom instruction.
