Work Summary-MARC records were uploaded into Titlewise and we reviewed percentages of fiction and non-fiction, average age of entire (K-12) collection and areas in need of possible weeding
-For areas in need of weeding and updating, participant learned how Learning Resources can supplement areas of the library collection. For example, there are Spanish ebooks and print books to help strengthen the language section - should Spanish resources be needed. Additionally, SEL and prof dev ebooks and print books are available from CASLS as well. In understanding how resources can be used to supplement the school's collection, participant can create a 3-5 year plan and create a budget to meet collection goals
-Participant was shown SWANK's home page and the digital streaming collection. Explained how this service worked. Belfast if planning an outdoor movie event and this may require an additional cost. Participant made a note of this and will speak with Superintendent
Assessment of Learning-Participant was able to navigate the library circulation system and facilitator guided her through uploading MARC records into Titlewise
-Participant engaged in discussion and shared goals for the coming school year. she navigated to sites (GALE, Newsbank, Project Look Sharp, Ferguson Career Center) and provided insight into how tools might be applied to student use and assessment.
-Participant took notes and asked questions to further learning.
Evaluation Summary Notes-Participant shared her goal for the library program and this year which included understanding the elementary library collection, assessing the age and use of material, and instructional goals
-Participant is familiar with the Empire State Information Fluency Continuum and its benchmark skills
Needed Changes-The only thing that would have made today's session better was having access to the libraries. When this day was scheduled, she was not aware of library floors being waxed so we met in a conference room
Next Steps-Provide movie licensing information to participant
-Possibly create a handout on copyright and fair use as it relates to streaming
-Return to the school later in August to help participant assess the elementary library collection and understand how books are organized, assess the flow of student traffic and preparing for managing students, and pull books for discard based on various criteria. Participant will check to see what the protocol is for discarding books.
-Evaluate the middle/high school collection and determine what books should be discarded
-Training on Insignia and warehouse tour
