Seminar Short DescThe inclusion of mental health within existing health education is critical to the healthy development of all young people. The Mental Health Literacy Forum Part II workshop will provide administrators and educators information on mental health education provided in schools pursuant to Education Law 804, updates with assessment, planning and implementation across the state and our local Cattaraugus-AlleganyBOCES Region.
Seminar Full DescQuality mental health education is especially urgent right now, as NYS and our nation confront serious issues that impact student lives, both in and out of school, such as teen suicide, bullying and cyberbullying, and opioid and alcohol addictions.

NYS Education Law 804, effective July 1, 2018 states that "All schools shall ensure that their health education programs recognize the multiple
dimensions of health by including mental health and the relation of physical and mental health so as to enhance student understanding, attitudes and behaviors that promote health, well-being and human dignity."

This full day, PART II of the Mental Health Literacy Forum will provide an opportunity for districts to continue integrating NYS requirements into the context of their district. District advisory teams that are working together in assessing current practice that supports NYS requirements and planning for the successful implementation of a district wide initiative will come together with other district advisory teams to collaborate.

The New York State Education Department expects schools to utilize the Comprehensive Guide to develop or adopt its own curriculum aligned with the New York State Learning Standards, and to tailor instruction and programs based on needs identified at the local level. Participants will share identified needs and work to collaboratively organize solutions for our local school districts.
